Vote for Ashley Ehasz to Preserve Women's Reproductive Rights
by Hal Wright
As an Alabama judge rules that frozen embryos are persons, with all the rights that entails, it's worth reviewing Brian Fitzpatrick's voting record on reproductive rights. Time and again, Fitzpatrick has voted to empower anti-choice MAGA extremists. The only pro-choice candidate in the race for PA01 is Democrat Ashley Ehasz.
Brian Fitzpatrick claims that he is pro-choice. His record tells a very different story.
The House Speaker has the power to keep legislation from ever being considered, however popular it might be.
Fitzpatrick has equated reproductive freedom to a dramatic and unrealistic wild west scenario, apparently casting himself as some sort of sheriff overseeing women's bodies. He characterizes his vote for Johnson as "keeping the lights on" in Congress, a wholly ineffective gesture, as Johnson dismissed Congress after blocking legislation to protect the southern border, and to supply needed aid to Ukraine and Israel. At best, Fitzpatrick is naive; at worst, he is a charlatan, saying one thing while doing another.

Candidate Ashley Ehasz won't play these word games. A no-nonsense combat veteran, Ehasz believes the women of PA01 deserve body autonomy. Ehasz has pledged to fight for a woman's right to choose. She is endorsed by Planned Parenthood, and was endorsed by the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2022.

Women's Body Autonomy Is on the Ballot in 2024
by Hal Wright
It was never about the sanctity of life. It was always about controlling women. And if Republicans take over in 2024, the post-Roe catastrophe will intensify.
Kate Cox is carrying a non-viable fetus. Her life is at risk. And the Republican-led Supreme Court in Texas denied her request for an abortion. In Texas, women are disposable, government-controlled breeding stock. Not only does the state ban abortion in almost all cases, they don't honor the legal exceptions to their abortion ban.
If folks concerned about Joe Biden's age think Nikki Haley might be the answer, listen to Haley explain that abortion bans require "tweaks" and nothing more.
Meantime, the Supreme Court, packed by Donald Trump with anti-choice judges, will hear a case which threatens to prohibit use of mifepristone, the safest and most commonly used method of terminating a pregnancy.
Here in Congressional District PA01, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick claims to be pro-choice, while never publicly defending a woman's right to choose of his own volition. Fitzpatrick says he seeks a "bipartisan" solution — his reflexive and unspecific response on every controversial issue. The one bill he endorses (HR 36 from the 115th Congress) would ban abortion nationwide at 20 weeks, while doing nothing to prevent states from banning abortion before 20 weeks. Fitzpatrick also voted with his Republican colleagues to limit service members' access to abortion care.
Where women's rights are concerned, Democrats don't waffle or hedge. The right to control a woman's body belongs to the woman. To preserve body autonomy for you and for the women in your life, vote Democrat up and down the ballot in 2024.

Women Have the Right to Choose in Pennsylvania
by Diane LeBas
As PA's Attorney General, Josh Shapiro fought to enable women to access the reproductive health care, including abortion, that they chose. As governor, he is expanding protections for PA residents and also for out-of-state patients who seek such care.

The Stuff of Nightmares: GOP Strongholds in Post-Roe America
In almost no time at all, Republican super-majorities have demolished reproductive healthcare in nearly half the states in our country. A vote for Democrats is a vote to ensure that Pennsylvania will not join their ranks.
Here are just a few resources which reveal the devastating scope of Republican attacks on women's reproductive freedoms.
The Center for Reproductive Rights publishes an interactive map which tracks abortion restrictions and protections state-by-state.
Clearly, abortion bans are less about protecting children than about controlling women.
Newtown Democrats reject the premise underlying all of these bans on abortion, articulated in 2020 by Idaho State Senator Todd Lakey, that the life of the mother "weighs less... than the life of the child." Women have the right to control their own bodies, and to take measures to save their own lives. Living under severe abortion restrictions, women become little more than expendable breeding stock.
Newtown Democrats pledge to defend the right to safe, legal abortion in the state of Pennsylvania.
