December 13, 2023 Women's Body Autonomy Is on the Ballot in 2024 by Hal Wright
It was never about the sanctity of life. It was always about controlling women. And if Republicans take over in 2024, the post-Roe catastrophe will intensify.
Kate Cox is carrying a non-viable fetus. Her life is at risk. And the Republican-led Supreme Court in Texas denied her request for an abortion. In Texas, women are disposable, government-controlled breeding stock. Not only does the state ban abortion in almost all cases, they don't honor the legal exceptions to their abortion ban.
If folks concerned about Joe Biden's age think Nikki Haley might be the answer, listen to Haley explain that abortion bans require "tweaks" and nothing more.
Meantime, the Supreme Court, packed by Donald Trump with anti-choice judges, will hear a case which threatens to prohibit use of mifepristone, the safest and most commonly used method of terminating a pregnancy.
Here in Congressional District PA01, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick claims to be pro-choice, while never publicly defending a woman's right to choose of his own volition. Fitzpatrick says he seeks a "bipartisan" solution — his reflexive and unspecific response on every controversial issue. The one bill he endorses (HR 36 from the 115th Congress) would ban abortion nationwide at 20 weeks, while doing nothing to prevent states from banning abortion before 20 weeks. Fitzpatrick also voted with his Republican colleagues to limit service members' access to abortion care.
Where women's rights are concerned, Democrats don't waffle or hedge. The right to control a woman's body belongs to the woman. To preserve body autonomy for you and for the women in your life, vote Democrat up and down the ballot in 2024.
December 9, 2023 Common Sense Gun Legislation Languishes in the PA Senate
Bills intended to reduce gun deaths in Pennsylvania, including one written by our own Rep. Perry Warren, have been stalled without a vote in the PA Senate for over 200 days.
Perry Warren discusses the urgency behind passage of expanded gun regulations on CBS 21.
House Bill 714, sponsored by Rep. Warren, would subject purchasers of guns at shows and private sales to a background check. The other bill, House Bill 1018, authorizes the confiscation of firearms from people where there is a danger of violence or self-harm.
