The May 19th Primary has established the groundwork for the Newtown Democrats to promote our Democratic candidates toward victories in the November midterm elections.
Governor Josh Shapiro and Lt. Governor Austin Davis were uncontested as the Democratic nominees for their respective offices. Having them anchor the top of the ticket is key to winning the PA State Senate (Steve Santarsiero, SD-10) and House (Perry Warren, HD-31) seats, as well as key U.S. congressional district seats up for election.
Pennsylvania is looking to flip four U.S. Congressional seats, which would strengthen the Democratic Party’s chances of retaking control of the U.S. House of Representatives. A shift in House leadership would restore meaningful checks on the current administration and advance Democratic priorities — including healthcare, environmental protection, childcare, food security, voting rights, and more.
In the PA‑01 Congressional District, Bob Harvie (Vice Chair of the Bucks County Board of Commissioners) secured the Democratic nomination over Lucia Simonelli. Support from all Democrats, Independents, and a growing number of Republicans disillusioned with the current administration will be essential to winning in November.
Bob Harvie will run against Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick claims to be a moderate; however, his initial vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill allowed the bill to move forward and ultimately be passed, stripping healthcare from 310,000 Pennsylvanians.
Harvie’s background as a Bucks County native, longtime educator, and twice-elected County Commissioner demonstrates his understanding of the issues affecting Bucks County residents, giving the Democrats the best chance to win the PA-01 in years.
The upcoming midterm elections will dictate the future of our state government and the balance of power in Congress. We need to focus our energy and attention on working together to achieve the goal of electing our Democratic candidates.
