Committee People
There are eight voting districts in Newtown Township. There are two voting wards in Newtown Borough (different name, same thing). A voter’s district/ward determines their polling location. Each district/ward elects two Democratic Committeepeople, who serve four-year terms.
Democratic Committeepeople serve two essential roles:
- We vote to endorse candidates, predominantly at the county and municipality levels.
- We are the “boots on the ground” of the party within our districts/wards. We get to know our neighbors, register voters, distribute campaign literature, recruit candidates and volunteers, and answer any questions voters have about their local government and the election process.
Volunteers
Our club relies on volunteers beyond those with official positions. Our volunteers greet voters at the polls, go door-to-door in support of candidates, make calls, stuff envelopes, and perform numerous other tasks. They are the heart that pumps the life’s blood of our party.

Steve Cickay
Whether canvassing, greeting voters at the polls, planting campaign signs, writing letters to the editor, or just keeping us fired up for the next election cycle, Steve Cickay is an invaluable member of Newtown Democrats.
Steve studied philosophy at the University of Chicago where he developed critical inquiry and writing skills that enriched all his endeavors in life. He moved with his family to Bucks County in 1985 attracted by the excellence of its public schools for his children.
Steve spent his working life in public service in the Departments of Army, Navy, Labor and Treasury in the information technology field. During retirement, he became more active in local politics as an independent activist, a Democratic Committeeperson, and a Democratic candidate for State Senate in 2014.
Steve enjoys walking in the beautiful parks of Bucks County, biking and running, and especially his new role as a grandfather, which fills him with exquisite joy.
